ALR - Agricultural Land Reserve
An area set aside for the more-or-less exclusive use of agricultural activity. The ALR system was set up province-wide in the early 1970s on the basis of Canada Land Inventory classification of land suitable for agriculture. The ALR has degraded over the years by wider interpretations of economic and social, not just physical, exclusions.

Aggregate Landforms
sand, gravel stone

Biogeoclimatic subzone
‘Bio’ - indicates the biological nature of the ecosystem, ‘geo’ -  indicates the use of soils and geology in the classification, "climatic" involves overriding climatic factors in the classification.  The combination of geology, vegetation and climate concepts form the basis for division of Biogeoclimatic Zones in British Columbia.  Together, the three levels Bio, Geo and Climatic are used to classify any site in BC into an ecosystem. In British Columbia, there are 14 biogeoclimatic zones identified.  http://selkirk.ca/rr/bec/zones/pdf/whatis.pdf
Community Mapping
Data that was collected by communities (general observations about a site of interest). Geographic extents: all of BC.

Cumulative Wildlife Rating
Mapping which rates the quality of habitat for 10 wildlife species using the sensitive ecosystem mapping.  Refer to Bella Vista Documents link off of abnc’s site.

DEM image hillshade
Digital Elevation Model: a computerized representation of an elevated surface. Relief shading is used to visually enhance the terrain features by simulating the appearance of the effects of sunlight falling across the surface of the land.

Hydrology
Study of the distribution, conservation, and use of the water of the earth and its atmosphere

Imagery
Orthophotos and other satellite imagery. Geographic Extents: Vancouver Island, Lower Mainland and other selective.

Infrastructure
Local government features such as cadastral, detailed road network for various municipalities, detailed watercourses, watercourses classification (Surrey and Langley only), road network, cities and place names.

Invasive Species
Animal and plant treatment sites, invasive animal and plant species. Invasive Animal Species Invasive Animal Species.

Metadata
Traditionally, metadata is understood as data about data http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/interop-focus/presentations/cimi/taiwan/rdf/iap-html/sld002.htm

NASA Landsat
Landsats are a series of satellites built and launched by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).  The Landsat satellites observe the Earth, and the data that they collect have been used for almost 30 years to study the Earth's environment, resources, and natural and man-made changes on the Earth's surface.  Landsat data are the standard for Earth observations, and Landsat is the only system of its type with the mission to collect, archive, and distribute data of all the Earth's land surface.  https://zulu.ssc.nasa.gov/mrsid/tutorial/Landsat%20Tutorial-V1.html

Orthophotos
Are photos that have been fitted into a standard map projection so that they contain the qualities of both maps and photographs. Like maps, they have only one scale, which allows for accurate measurements of distances, angles, and areas to be made directly from their surface. Like photographs they depict features as they truly are (without any symbolization).

Riparian
Of, on, or relating to the banks of a natural course of water

SEI - Sensitive Ecosystem Inventory
ecosystem  is defined as a portion of landscape with a relatively uniform dominant vegetation; sensitive ecosystems  are those which are fragile and/or rare.  SEI identifies the remnants of these rare and fragile terrestrial ecosystems using air photo interpretation and field surveys http://www.shim.bc.ca/atlases/sei/seidoc.htm

Stock Status -  Stock

A biologically discrete population. Fish species are made up of an aggregate of stocks.  Term refers to the condition of a population.
Extinct
At Risk
Special Concern
Low or no Risk

SHIM - Sensitive Habitat Inventory Mapping
SHIM data provided by various groups. Feature types include: fish habitat, culvert, enhancement, modification, obstruction, stream, etc.

Trim 1:20K
TRIM Layers (1:20,000 scale) including lakes, rivers, elevation contours lines, roads, land cover and transport structures.
