Installing the Mapguide ActiveX Control

MAPPING TOOLS:

Description |

Copy
the current map view to the Clipboard (not available in the Java
edition). |

|
Select
a feature in the map. |
|
|
|
Slide
the map around to display areas that are outside of the current view. |
|
|
|
Zoom
in by a magnification factor of two on the point that you click, or zoom
in to the rectangular area you draw with the mouse. |
|
|
|
Zoom
out by a magnification factor of two from the point you click to display a
larger area of the map. |
|
|
|
Return
to the previous zoom magnification and location. |
|
|
|
Zoom
to a specified location. |
|
|
|
Zoom
out to display the entire map. |
|
|
|
Generate
a report for the selected map features. |
|
|
|
STOP |
Stop
or interrupt the map display from updating and dynamic map layers from
downloading. |

Open
the online help to get information about viewing maps. If you do not have
the help installed on your computer, it will be opened from the Autodesk
MapGuide web site. |
LAYERS:
Note that the Habitat Features are
divided into 3 Layer Groups:
THE
“RIGHT-CLICK” MENU:
Additional Options are available by
right-clicking anywhere on the map.

Print
·
Edit (A very useful tool to copy the map
image to the clipboard and then pasting the image into a Word or a Power Point
presentation.) or Copy the URL and send it via e-mail to a colleague to direct
him/her directly to the area of interest (like a bookmark)
·
Bookmarks: add a bookmark so that you can
return to the same area without having to zoom, pan etc.
·
Select: Select elements on the map
·
View: A report (you must select a feature
on the map first), Distance (measure a distance from one point to another)
·
Zoom: Zoom to a specific scale, to a
specific feature on the map
· Help: Preferences: This allows you to choose whether you want the mouse position coordinates displayed in the bottom left corner of the screen, and whether you want your mouse position to appear as latitude and longitude or U(niversal) T(ransverse) M(ercator) coordinates.
Note: “Zoom Go To”
Example (would zoom to the mouth of the Skeena River):

THE MAP:

Get a password: |
Fill-in the information and someone
will contact you to give you a username and password. |
|
Login: |
Enter your username and password to be
able to add, update or delete data. No password is required to browse the
map and get a report on a specific feature on the map. |
|
Help: |
Instructions specific to the Skeena
atlas. |
|
Options: |
Brings up another set of customized
options that will be described below. |
|
Study Area: |
Snapshot of the study area and link to
the Skeena web site. |
|
Metadata: |
Listing of the layers available and the
scale ranges at which they can be turned. Short description of the data
contained in the layer. |
THE “OPTIONS” TAB:

Home: |
Go back to previous set of tabs. |
|
Digitize: |
Login Required. Brings you to another
menu as described below. |
|
Update: |
Must select an updatable feature first
(see “Edit a Point” heading). |
|
Delete: |
Must select an updatable feature first
(see “Delete a Point” heading). |
|
Report: |
Get a report on a feature on the map. |
|
Collapse Layers: |
To collapse the layers under each layer
group. |
|
Expand Layers: |
To expand the layers under each layer
group. |
|
Refresh Layer: |
To refresh the layer after a change
(very important in order to see the change made). |
THE “DIGITIZE” TAB:

Drop-down list |
Select the feature type that you want
to digitize (only Habitat Feature and Fish Observation are implemented so
far). |
|
Point: |
Click on this tab to digitize a point
on the map. |
|
Zone: |
Click on this tab to digitize a line on
the map (not yet implemented) |
|
Options: |
Return to the Options menu. |
|
Refresh Layer: |
To refresh the layer after a change
(very important in order to see the change made). |
DIGITIZE

Click on the location on the map and the “Habitat Feature Mapping Submission Form” will appear
