Feb 6, 2004Local governments and conservation groups in the Okanagan basin and throughout British Columbia are developing map-based resource information, document libraries, and field data collection methods to facilitate land use planning and natural resource management decisions. The time is right to share the excellent results of work done over the last few years and to demonstrate how to access and update these internet based systems. Participants of the workshop will have opportunities to provide feedback on ways to improve the delivery of the systems and to expand content.

Realities and Trends of the Okanagan. Robert Hobson, Chairperson, Regional Board, City of Kelowna.
"Planning Sustainable Communities", Brad Mason, DFO and Rob Knight, MWALP.
"The Natural Resources Information Network (NRIN)", Mike Ratch, FORREX - Forest Research Extension Partnership.
Central Okanagan Habitat mapping, Brent Magnan, Regional District of Central Okanagan.
City of Vernon Waterfront Plan, Kyle Hawes, EBA Engineering Consultants Ltd.
"Wetland mapping", Wendy Schebel, Ducks Unlimited.
The workshop will bring practitioners, elected officials and communities together to learn what others are doing and see the services that are available through the Community Mapping Network and Natural Resources Information Network. The workshop will promote planning sustainable communities through the use of resource information that is collected using standard methods and approaches.
